Tangshanpeng Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located at the “Tangshanpeng section” (E118°34′, N37°22′) near the Huangyadian village, Qixia County, Shandong Province (Huang, 1984 in Li et al., 1984). It is derived from the “Tangshanpeng Conglomerate Fm” named by the Regional Stratigraphic Chart of Shandong Province Editorial Group (RSCSPEG) in 1978 (see BGMRS(Shandong)P, 1991), and transferred to the Tangshanpeng Fm by Huang (1984, in Li et al. 1984).
Chi et al. (1994) regarded that the Niushan Fm, Shanwang Fm, Yaoshan Fm, Tangshangpeng Fm Conglomerate, and Qiaxiaxian Basalt Fm in East Shandong share same lithological characteristics (basalts with fluvio-lacustrine or fluvial sediments) and proposed combining them into the Linqu Gr and abandoning the Tangshangpeng Fm Conglomerate and Qiaxiaxian Basalt Fm. BGMRS(Shandong)P (1996) considered that the Tangshanpeng Fm can be correlated to the bottom of the Yaoshan Fm and also suggested abandoning the name of Tangshanpeng Fm. Gao et al. (2014b) fallowed their points. Because the Yaoshan Fm is widely accepted as a synonym of the Shanwang Fm, so here we treat the Tangshanpeng as a synonym of the Shanwang Fm.
Lithology and Thickness
It is characterized by brownish-red conglomerates and medium to fine sandstones. The components of conglomerates are complicated and dominated by 3 to 10 cm leptynite. No fossils are reported. Its thickness is about 4.3 m.
